I'm an indie developer working on a 2.5D platformer called Capsoul.
Like many solo devs, I wanted to connect with people, share ideas, maybe show a bit of my project, and just talk. So I joined Reddit — thinking it was still a platform for open discussion.
I was wrong.
What happened
Over the past few months, five of my Reddit accounts were banned.
Not for spamming. Not for links. Not even for mentioning my game.
My posts?
– A photo of my cat
– A burnout discussion in r/CasualConversation
– Comments like “Nice cat!” or “Yeah, I feel that too.”
Nothing harmful. Nothing promotional.
Each account got suspended without warning.
Appeals? Silence.
I tried to appeal. Nothing.
I tagged on Twitter, with account names. Silence again.
I wasn’t even told what the original “violation” was.
Apparently, being a real person with a new account is a ban-worthy offense.
I wasn’t even trying to promote anything
Sure, I hoped people might one day check out Capsoul — but I wasn’t pushing links or doing any kind of marketing.
I wanted to be part of conversations. That’s it.
But Reddit’s moderation system doesn’t care. If you're new, active, and don’t have 10 years of karma? You're disposable.
Why I’m writing this
Because I know I’m not the only one.
If you’ve ever been banned from Reddit for no reason — you’re not crazy.
If you tried to be a decent user and still got shut down — I get you.
If you were just trying to exist — and got erased — you're not alone.
