Today’s Deal:
- ? Instant download. One-time price (less than a single coffee).
Every developer loves a shiny GitHub repo — but let’s be honest: most of them end up as starred-and-forgotten. ?
In this post, I’ll share how I actually use GitHub to find practical tools that solve real dev problems. Plus, I’ll drop 10+ repos that saved me countless hours — from debugging to documentation to deploying. ?️
? 1. Don’t Just Star — Use GitHub Like a Toolbox
Most people use GitHub like Pinterest: you see something cool, you star it, and... that’s it.
But GitHub is full of tools, not just inspiration. If you treat it like a toolbox, not a gallery, you'll start finding real value.
Here’s my 3-step method to find gold:
- Look at Issues: Active issues = active devs = better support.
- Check the “Used By” Badge: If big projects use it, it’s probably legit.
- Sort by Recent Commits: Last updated 4 years ago? Nope.
? Debugging
- – Shows “why” a bug happened, not just the stacktrace.
- – Beautiful, grep-level powerful logs in-browser.
- – The CLI tool I use more than curl.
- – The Docker dashboard your terminal deserves.
- – Plug into CI and it does everything.
- – Auto-generates changelogs that don’t suck.
- – Fast docs from markdown, zero setup.
- – Export Notion pages as clean markdown.
Here’s my Notion template (grab it here) I use to evaluate if a repo is worth keeping around:
| Repo | Problem it Solves | How I Use It | Date Last Updated | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| lazydocker | Docker UI in terminal | Weekly | May 2025 | 5 |
Tracking usage > starring aimlessly.
? Final Thoughts
Instead of chasing stars, chase solutions. GitHub is packed with tools built by devs like us who needed to fix a pain point — and chances are, their fix might save you a weekend too. ?
What GitHub repo has saved you the most time? Drop it in the comments ?
